That the Apple iPhone is a highly popular device is evident, yet another time, from the fact that Vodafone – which is the fourth network in the UK to run the smartphone, the other three being O2, Orange, and Tesco Mobile – has reported a whopping 100,000 unit sales of the phone in the first week post-release, including pre-orders.

Vodafone, which is expecting a further rise in the sales of the iPhone after it comes on PAYG, said that its iPhone launch announcement brought along 50,000 pre-orders for the device, with another 50,000 in the week after that.

Talking about the notable sales numbers thus far, Vodafone UK CEO, Guy Laurence, told Pocket-lint: “The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal. They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we’re delivering that.”

With Vodafone offering the iPhone with a 2-year contract; Pocket-lint has noted that by the time the first Vodafone iPhone contracts come to an end in January 2012, the iPhone 3G will be three-and-a-half years old. Furthermore, at least one new iPhone model will likely hit the markets in June this year.

Meanwhile, some other phones are also scheduled to come to the Vodafone network in the near future – one of them being the Google Nexus One.

Original Source Jason Wong • Jul 3, 2009

So every console has their own motion control system now. Nintendo has the Wii-mote. Sony is coming out with their ice cream cone controller. And Microsoft has Project Natal — a full-body 3D motion capture, facial recognition, and voice recognition system.

It’s obvious who’s leading in innovation. The Wii-mote is so 2006. Core gamers need cutting edge technology. Not something that Grandma uses on her Wii bowling nights. And Sony? They’re working on a motion controller, too? Didn’t they do that already? Oh yea, wait — it’s called the Sixaxis and look where it is now.

Let’s be frank, it’s ridiculous to compare the three systems when two of them haven’t even seen the light of day. It’s even more ridiculous to claim Microsoft’s Project Natal has got them all beat, based solely on E3 demonstrations and previews. But it’s downright outrageous to present a “Top Ten List Why Project Natal Will Beat Waggle Control.”

So here goes:

Number 10

No Wii-mote means no hand strap. We’re free. Free as a bird. Fly birdie, fly… oops.

Number 09

If you’re anything like Transformers’ star and well-known Wii-hater Shia LaBeouf, a broken hand + waggle control = automatic fail. For your own protection, do what Shia does — “Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there.”

Number 08

Girls love playing it. Nerds love watching.

Number 07

Jimmy Fallon says, “What? Go with waggle and forget about wearing matching red jumpsuits? The hell I will. I’m not crazy.”

Number 06

As part of Gov. Schwarzenegger’s last ditch effort to combat child obesity, he will mandate teachers confiscate all contraband juice boxes and require PE classes teach one full hour of intense (simulated) physical sports activity. Oh snap! You just got served, Dance Dance Revolution.

Number 05

I am the interface!

Number 04

I am the controller!

Number 03

Peter Molyneux’s “Milo” will revolutionize the way 30-year old guys meet 10-year old boys.

Number 02

Unlike Sony and their upcoming motion sensing system, with Natal and Milo Microsoft can safely avoid any pink-ball-on-a-stick jokes and skip straight to the “child predator simulator” references.

Annnnnddddd… the top reason why Xbox 360’s Project Natal will beat waggle control:

Number 01

C’mon, waving your hands and feet in the air is so much cooler than jerking your waggle stick around.

We’ve all heard of Microsoft’s Natal and Sony’s recently delayed PS3 motion controller. We even know a great deal about how each of these technologies operate, thanks to some nifty technology demonstrations at last year’s E3. What we don’t yet have from Sony is an official name for its device, which combines a brightly illuminated ball on the end of a hand-held wand (read the juvenile jokes here). Signs now suggest that we could be getting closer to an official announcement from Sony regarding product features and roll-out plans.

A rumor surfaced this week that Sony may have finally committed to a brand name for its new motion-sensing device. A website called ps3arc.com was registered in the name of Sony Computer Entertainment, leading many to speculate that the new system will be called the Sony Arc.

If this turns out to be real, Arc is probably not a bad name. However, since anybody can register a website these days and Sony has made no official comment on the matter, we can’t be totally sure that Arc will end up being the actual product title. What do you think that they should call the peripheral when it arrives later this year? Be sure to let us know in the comments below, but here are some of our own ideas:
Playstation Sphere: An obvious choice, considering the shape of the controller.

Sony Fuse: A more abstract name that plays on the idea of a ‘fusion’ between the player’s movements and the action on-screen.

Sony Muv: Short and to the point.

Playstation Shift: Besides the fact that the device looks kind of like the gear shift in a car, this also plays on the whole movement theme.
